PiPA (Parents and Carers in Performing Arts) is taking part in Fuel and The Mayor of London's project: Creative Freelancers- Shaping London’s Recovery. The programme brings together a diverse group of freelancers in the culture sector to explore and make recommendations on the future of freelancing.
As part of this initiative we are working with freelance Theatre Director Sarah Meadows, to identify the specific needs and challenges faced by freelance parent and carers in the performing arts industry.
The information collected in this survey will be used to make recommendations for employers, create supportive information and initiatives for parents and carers, as well as inform a central Freelancers charter created as part of the wider Creative Freelancers- Shaping London’s Recovery project. Your contribution to this survey will inform direct action and is greatly appreciated.
Please submit your responses by 8am 20th September 2021.
About Creative Freelancers: Shaping London’s Recovery Programme:
Creative freelancers, particularly those in the performing arts, have been hit hard by COVID-19. It is estimated that up to 60% of freelancers lost all of their work, and at least 200,000 Londoners have been excluded from any Government support.
The pandemic also highlighted the existing structural challenges faced by creative freelancers. These include a lack of security at work, unequal access to freelance opportunities, and a lack of a basic safety net. (Fuel Theatre 2021)
PiPA's recent COVID Research found that parent and carer freelancers are face even further challenges.
By filling out this survey you will help inform the recommendations made to the Mayor of London and performing arts organisations to better support freelancers with caring responsibilities.
